Hello All,
This is my first post and it will be my first season back to the sport that I love after 10 years. Prior to me leaving the sport, I skied just about everyday. Of course this was only Southern California skiing, some of you probably think of it hardly as skiing. )
When I left the sport I was a ski instructor at a resort in southern california. If I was to rate myself I would say high 7 to mid 8 level skiing. This year will be about learnig about the new gear and brushing up on my skills.
One of the things that I have always wanted to do was off piste skiing of Mt San Gorgornio, it's the largest peak in Southern California at a little over 11,000 feet. So my question to all of you are what are the skills that I wil need. I know the mountain like all mountains must be respected, as the conditions can change at a moments notice. Earlier this year two hikers were rescued from the summit and temps were sub zero wind chill.
I know that avalanches are also possible, although not as frequent as other places.
I have always wanted to ski this mountain and I look forward to doing it in the near future. Thanks for all the help.

I'd say get a ski guide who knows the mountain, learn mountaineering, do a transceiver/avalanche survival course, and make sure your skiing skills are up to scratch.
