Just had an offer from mates of a mate to go to Engelberg in mid-March, self-catering and driving down. Has anybody any advice and suggestions of what to expect for skiing/nightlife, pros and cons? I'm a reasonable intermediate on-piste, spending my time on reds/blacks and enjoy challenging myself. As for grace and style - "nul points"

I have usually gone to the large (and high) French resorts to get plenty of space, variety and guaranteed good snow conditions. I wish to really get to grips with (a) moguls and (b) powder snow/off-piste.

Thanks for any replies

Arthur

Plenty of skiing, off piste galore and rather noisy apres in this place..

Unlike large high French resorts, with their identikit pistes, Engelberg has huge skiing variety.

have to agree with bandit happy hour in the yucatan takes some beating, great challenging skiing,my advise would be to stay as central as possible, that way you have access to both brunni and titlis as well as bars and shops, might sound obvious but tough to get round otherwise.

Not the most convenient or extensive resort, but snowsure with some great cruising. Might be a bit repetitive for a week-long trip, but I've done several four-day jaunts and it's just about perfect for that - given the ease of access by air, road and rail from Zurich.

The apres is not very extensive either but the Yucatan - reputed to sell more beer than any other bar in Switzerland - is some kind of jumping joint! I also liked the Dream Bar at the Hotel Central near the railway station. It's very pleasant in a what the Swiss think a British pub should be like kind of way.
