Yes it does seem a shame but then again I suppose it all comes down to taste. :-)
I think you find it comes down to perception, there's nothing in an Austrian Xmas dinner that's alien to the British palate.
ise, it's still down to the individual.

Can anyone tell me if restuarants in Austria (Kaprun) are open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day? Also, would we be able to buy traditional christmas food in the supermarket/shops if we decide to cook our own Christmas dinner. :D

it seems a shame to travel and not try local customs, the main meal in Austria would be Xmas eve and you might find a local hotel to book a table at. I've had some pretty amazing Christmas meals in Austra over the years personally although some have been pretty epic )

We are actually looking forward to trying some traditional Austrian food and will hopefully have an Austrian Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve but would like to have a traditional dinner i.e. Turkey on Christmas day which we would happily cook ourselves if it is available to buy. We would like Christmas to really feel like Christmas for the sake of the children in our party, if that makes sense
