Hi, my family and I are driving to Avoriaz for the first time this Christmas and we were wondering about car parking. I know there are a couple of long stay car parks on the fringes which will be costly, but does anyone know of a cheaper (safe) alternative?

Also has anyone used the baby club there? We have a three year old who, despite having use of a babysitter, would probably enjoy some skiing time with some like minded tots and I would like to know if it's any good.

Not long now! Can't wait.

Hi Snowcheeks welcome to J2ski :D

Parking at the bottom of the Prodains cable car used to be free, so naturally it's quite popular. With a toddler, it might be hard to get your belongings up to Avoriaz via the cable car.
AFAIK the car park at Prodains is not secured.

There is a specialist childrens club in Avoriaz, and it is well known, having been founded many years ago.

I have heard no bad reports, but as I'm not a parent, I'm probably not a good person to comment!

All I can comment is that the car park is free (Well it was in Jan 08)

HOwever, as expected it gets very busy. In addition to that when we were there it was constantly about 6" solid ice, walking in ski boots on that with skis & poles was a "challenge"

The village-des-enfants is good.

I used it for lessons for my son when he was 4.

Running though the centre of Avoriaz town is the greenest of green pistes.

There were many other English children there too (not sure if that's a good thing!!!)

Car Parks ?? I didn't drive - but Avoriaz is a traffic free resort. Only horse drawn sleighs and ski-dos. So if you park in the 'main' Avoriaz car parks, you still need to move your luggage to your accommodation. This could be a pain in the ass, depending on where your accommodation is. Double to grief with young kids.

Therefore perhaps the convience of the car parks closer to Avoriaz is worth the price.

I think you bigger question should be wether you have a covered car park or open air.

If you go, open air, be prepared to dig yourself out if your 'lucky' enough to see alot of freash snow while you're away.....
You'll never know, unless you try...

Thanks all for your replies so far. I heard there was a car park on the edge of Avoriaz itself which costs about 42 euros for a week but that was for outdoors.

Our accommodation is a privately rented apartment in the Apartments Portes de Soleil block (wherever that is). Our hosts are in the village and hopefully on hand to help and we are used to lugging equipment about! I just hope it isn't too far away from the car park. Car free resorts are all very well but can be very inconvenient!

I also hear that the snow is getting deeper by the day, maybe we will take a spade!
