I have a question, and it's going to sound stupid im sure.
have boots changed ????????????
ok so let me explain, I have been skiing for 15 years, and in this time I have only ever had 2 pairs of boots.
last pair I got were about 7 seasons ago,
im considering getting some new ones, however im a little worried (I mean bad boot fit, and well there goes my holiday (im about to go from australia to Zermatt)

thanks

Yes, I would say that boots have changed in the last 7 seasons. They have got more comfy for a start, and the shell materials are different, more pliable is one way of looking at it.
Prices don't seem to have changed much in that time though, which is probably good.
With new boots, it's likely that both the shell and the inner will be heat moulded to suit the shape of your foot. Allow a good 2 hours for boot fitting and expect to be wearing shaped, thin, ski socks, not tubes, afterwards.

Budget for a decent footbed to support your foot in the boot, at the time of buying the boot.

cem is the bootfitting oracle on here, hopefully he will be along soon :D

I can't really think of someoen in Zermatt, [there probably is a good fitter but i don't know them]

boot technology has improved over the past few seasons, the lasts [shapes] are much more anatomical than they ever were, all brands make make lasts so do not right a brand off based on wide feet or narrow feet etc. most shops will stock a selection of brands and then a range of boots from those brands, it is those choices which should be narrowed down by the fitter to match your foot shape and skiing level.

other improvments are the quality and comfort of the liners and the user friendlyness and adjustability of the hardware on the boots

hope that helps a little
