Hi,
I am looking for some reccomendations as a good place to go skiing with the children this half term (Feb) So I am a resonable skier been around France etc now I want to take my son & daughter who are 8 and 6.
We would be flying so points to consider are
1/ Short transfer times from the airport
2/ Good snow
3/ Good ski School facilities
I can't really see us doing that much in teh evening so nightlife is not high on the list (unlike recent visits!!) I am thinking Austria / Italy ???
Cost is not to big an issue. We would probably all stay in one largish hotel room / suite ??
Many thanks

Niederau, in Austria would be ideal. I'm sure there's plenty of people on here that will extol the virtues of Niederau.
I learnt to ski there myself a few years ago, and am going back for New year this year. I know of several other who return there year after year. It's a beautiful little village, with plenty of nice hotels / guesthouses that are close to the slopes. I stayed in the Hotel Sonnchein which was lovely and very child friendly. Food was great too.
The red ski school in Niederau is second to none, and the instruction first class. I think that the ski school is very good with children too (may LDavies can fill you in on that!)
I'm also a fan of Kitzbuhel too, but maybe not the best place for young children!
Good luck in finding a holiday, and enjoy!

Hi there,
would like to reinforce the information that blodyn1 gave. Hotels Sonschein or Harfenwirt good. Both are child friendly. Go for red ski school, as opposed to the another.
For yourself, the skiing is very good, but is not extensive. The plus point is that the resort is compact enough to easily meet up with the youger ones at lunch and finish times.

Hi Mr Nice
I am returning to Kitzbuhel this year with my 6 9 and 11 year olds. They have all learned to ski in Kitzbuhel (all over half term breaks too!!) and we all love it. It may be a bit hard to get a cheap booking now though as everyone I know, including us, that goes there books in August/September.
If cost is not an issue try the Kaiserhoff or Tennerhoff (Tennerhoff is on the Kitz Horn side of town but the open spaces at the top of Kitzbuheler Horn are great for my 6 year old!).
We will spend a few days at the Tennerhoff when we arrive as we are there for 10 days and it is mainly Saturday to Saturday bookings.
Have a geat time with your kids anyway

Les Gets in France was rated as the top ski resort for Families by The Independant newspaper - however, for the Feb half term, my guess is you will be lucky to find accomodation, might be worth a try.

Ellmau in Austria is fantastic with kids. I've two and they first went at 10 and 4.
Another brill place is Saalbach. Huge area with wide wide pistes. Loads of mountain restaurants. Can be quite noisy apres ski but fun and when in the hotels, you don't notice it, but fun to show them Austria apres ski for half an hour.
Ski in and ski out though - it's definitely Obergurgl or Oberlech (not Lech). High up and ski in and out, with excellent ski school and from the hotels or just outside. The abs best place in Austria is Oberlech which is traffic free - half way up the mountain - ski in and out and just fantastic. Also it's where the taboggan run starts too, so kids love it.
Enjoy..............

I can recommend Le Grand bornand my daughter now 7 has learnt to ski there and the ESF ski school is first class
it's the reason I have been back to LGb for the last four years.
Snow's good, lift pass reasonable, slopes not over crowded, a fine place to spend a week, and all about an hour from Geneva.
