Hi everyone,
A group of 6 of us are off to St Gervais for the week on the 27th Dec. A mix of beginners and intermediates, so the resort seems fine for us. A couple of questions though....
Does anybody know what the snow is like at this time of the year? I know at valley level snow will be limited, but just wanted an idea for the slopes etc.
.... and just wondering if anyone had any tips/ideas as to where we could spend NYE?! )
Cheers,
Nicky.

Short of a real Crystal Ball I am not sure even Mystic Meg could tell you what the snow will be like.

We have gone every year for the last 3 years and it is generally pretty good.

I'm having a serious look at St Gervais this year (well Jan 09 actually). As ever, we are on a budget & I've sourced cheap flights & reasonable accommodation but transfers from Geneva seem very expensive. Does anyone have any recommendations?
I've also read in some reviews that it's much better to hire a car if staying here. Is this really necessary as the apartment is very close to the Telecabine Bettex? Is it difficult to explore the full Evasion Mont-Blanc area by using public transport? Maybe we should just hire a car :?

The plan is.... there's no plan!

Without a car you'll have St Gervais, St Nicolas and Megeve Rochbrune to play in, which is reasonably extensive if a little tame. (I'm not knocking that, we're there for the season!)
A car would be useful for Les Contamines and Combloux as these are not lift/piste linked - though for Combloux I think you could ski to Megeve, cross the town and get an uplift - not sure how far 'crossing Megeve' actually is though!
Les Contamines appears to be served by a scheduled bus but I can't see a timetable past 19/12 and can't see anywhere that there is a direct service from the Bettex TC to the le lay kifts. Still seems it's going to cost in excess of 14euros return from St Gervais to the lift and if you really are right by the telecabine it'll be a bit of a walk from 'St gervais centre'(or even the roundabout where you go off to Contamines with 'kit') to the apt or vice versa hanging around for the St Gervais navette. Contamines comes into its own if the snow elsewhere is poor.
So, if you want to 'do' the Mont Evasion reasonably easily I would go for getting a car if you can.
equally, if right by the lift, it is quite a trot though doable into the town.

What are the best/ cheapest options to transfer from Geneva Airport to St Gervais? - is there a shuttle service? is public transport an option? or is a car the only realistic method?
