I thought I'd mention that I had an email from esprit today saying that the 2nd edition of their brochure is coming out on 26th september and they have had to increase their prices.

If you book before then you get the older price. )

(btw, while I'm on, can anyone remember which thread had all the eighties songs on it a few weeks ago? save me trawling through)

This is all down to large increases in energy and fuel costs, and I have been told that not only is it flight prices that have soared, but also the cost of transfers to and from airports, as well as the cost of heating hotels/chalets etc.
This just doubles the impact of these increases on our own personal circumstances. Its not going to get a lot better overnight unfortunately, but at least the US government deal with the mortgage operators will help to stem the downward spiral somewhat.
Batton down the hatches, people. Wheres Thatcher when you need her, or a war when you need one?

The advise I've heard is to book flights asap. Also as more routes are cut, there will be fewer seats and overbooking will be even more common.

Talking of overbooking, it is always a good idea to have plans in place to be able to fly the next day when returning on a trans Atlantic flight. Compensation is 500 to 750 dollars (in flight vouchers)plus a night in a good hotel. That can make a huge hole in the next trips cost. If the flight looks crowded and you want to volunteer, stick close to the boarding desk.

I’d definitely agree with that – if you see the holiday you want and it’s a good price, book it! Deciding to wait and book it in the morning cost us an extra £400. :(

Also, not sure if I read this correctly or not (back of brochure small print), but it seems that with some companies they can increase prices at a later date, even if you have paid a deposit (or even the full cost of the holiday) at a lower price??
Not sure how they can get away with this if it’s true, as surely once you’ve paid for something in full, you don’t expect to be asked for more money at a later date…?
On the other hand, this could just be me completely misinterpreting what I’ve read. :?:

They are withing their rights to subsequently increase costs, depending on what they attribute them to.

Oi. What's that got to do with holiday prices? Do keep up and stick to the subject... 8)

...pertaining to which... I reckon prices will go up now as the TOs try to counter the exchange rate changes, but pretty sure there'll be plenty of late deals left after our crunchy credit dampens early bookings.
