i am looking to see how much I can buy now (to try and space it out so I dont have to spend a fortune in January after christmas) and I am just wondering.

Will one pair of sallopettes and one ski jacket do for us each?. I just cant remember for the life of me what I used to take away.

In February just how many layers will I need for the kids? will they need long johns, then maybe tracksuit bottoms then their sallopettes do? or will that be too much?

thanks in advance.

I have 2 of each, maybe 3 jackets and 2 s's that I take. Depends where you are going and how old the kids are....

Should have guessed Neiderau really..

For me personally anything down to -15 is just Jacket/Salopettes and a silk thermal/mid layer under my top nothing under salys.

I guess the most important thing is to get them to wear too much because they can always take stuff off. I'd recommend silk thermals and perhaps a fleece. If you spend alot of money on anything make it on good gloves otherwise cold hands will be the first thing they complain about..

You don't need more then one pair of sallo's and a jacket! You're only going for a week so there's no need for more! I would have said a good set of thermal bases and maybe a roll neck or a fleecy type top should be enough! But as ross has said lots of thin layers is best as they can be removed!

Can't think why you need more than one jacket and salopettes. Nobody is going to pinch them. They will be dry by the morning. There is a strength in just having one piece of kit. You don't arrive at the Gondola, and remember that your lift pass is in your "other" jacket. A fleece would do as a spare.

Since you are driving, I take it that weight space is not a big issue.
So you can err on the side of taking extra.

I am afraid that silks haven't caught me up yet. I wear a polo, sweater, jacket. Bottom half, just Y fronts and salopettes. Good thinsulate gloves.

My ambition is to get my ski kit, including my boots, on as hand luggage, so as to cut the journey to the Alps by the luggage waiting time. (I use Easyjet) Haven't figured it out yet though. I am down to 13Kgms. I only ever take four days clothes, wash and dry each night.

I agree with the other posters that 1 jacket and pants will be fine for each of you. Layers are useful, 2 thermal tops each (wash n wear)and 1 pair of LJ's each. Mid layer fleece Polartec 100 grade. Don't skimp on gloves, suggest mitts for the youngest.

This is wholly achievable with Easyjet who have not banned ski boots as hand luggage. However there are numerous anecdotal reports of (various airports UK and abroad) security staff refusing to allow ski boots through as hand luggage, despite the meeting of all gov't/EU restriction criteria for size, shape, material etc.
Of course it could all be a ruse to make folks buy hold luggage space
