I am probably mad raising this particular hare given the enthusiam for Neiderau that permeates this site .
However, here goes ........
Four of us (lads in our 40s) went to Soll last year for a long weekend skiing. We are reasonably good on-piste skiers and tend to prefer the larger resorts with plenty of runs, though this is obviously less of an issue on a shorter trip. We had a great time - Soll worked out really well for a number of reasons:
- quick and easy drive from Munich (best airport option from Dublin)
- extensive, reasonably well connected, skiing in the area
- good apres ski (including a pub crawl with the "mayor" - but thats another story )
- reasonably priced.
We are planning on a similar trip for next year and it is a very attractive proposition to simply return to Soll, now that we know the lay of the land. However, prompted by the many fans of Neiderau, I am wondering whether it would be worth considering it as an alternative.
So the big question is, why should we pass Soll and continue on to Neiderau?

Their both good great resorts if you want to its only a short pitch over the hill in a car so stay in one and ski both no problem.

I have been to Soll twice years (about 20) ago. It was great. I loved the fact that you never had to ski the same run twice if you didnt want to and I am really considering it for my next holiday after I return from Niederau, but who knows I might never want to change.
One of the reasons I like Soll was the fact that you had such a vast area to ski and I remember one trip we timed the lifts wrong and ended up having to hike across and up the piste slopes (I really thought i was going to die but thats another story) because they used to (dont know if they still do) turn them off at a certain time so if you have skied into a valley you could end up walking back up lol
Anyway I digress. I am off to Niederau with the family this time and I am really looking forward to getting myself back into the saddle but not sure how I will feel after a few days of getting used to skiing again, will I be hankering for a new run. I literally have no idea.
Good luck though I would be interested to see if there is another resort that is similar to Soll where you can ski that type of area etc.

I like Soll, for it's access to the skiwelt, for it's beautiful church, old buildings, history, musicians.
I love Niederau.
If you have had a good time in Soll before, you will probably do so again. I would stick with what you know.
Plan A might be to drive to Niederau and take a day ticket. It is only 10 minutes from Hopfgarten, about 20/25 minutes from Soll.
Day lift pass cost is 31.8 Euros HS, 28.6 Euros LS.

Hello Mr Dublin,
Come to Niederau (God, did I actually say that? and me a good Catholic girl too ...!)
See you in the Sportcafe on new Year's Eve ...
Small, very friendly resort: people you've slipped and slid into on the piste earlier that day are those you bump into in the bars in the evening.
The snow can be a bit dodgy, but when it's good in the Wildschoenau, it's fab.
As someone else said a day or two ago, stop faffing around, come to Niederau! L.
