Lock for Ski Poles?

Last weekend I had my K2 Apache Crossfire skis and Rossignol G20 poles stolen from a rack at the bottom of the Blackcomb Gondola in Whistler. Annoyingly I had locked the skies with one of those thin cable locks, but they still went. I guess those thin wires are not much of a deterrent against a determined thief with some wire cutters or a pair of pliers.

With a view to not having this happen to me again I bought one of those ski locks (for use with the racks that take those locks) and also a sodding thick motorbike cable lock that would take an angle grinder to get through.

As I now have an expensive pair of Leki poles that I bought as a replacement for the Rossignols, I was wondering does anyone know if it is possible to buy a lock specifically for ski poles for those times when a ski lock rack is not available?

Sorry to hear you had your skis and poles nicked Wheeles,But did you never think to pair your skis and poles up with someone else in your party to make odd pairs? Regarding locks sorry cant help you there.

I don't think that really works, it provides some entertainment for those people already sat outside the restaurant as people make a song and dance about doing it but by the time they've done it there's not a person within a couple of hundred metres that doesn't know where the skis are. It probably works well in preventing someone taking them accidentally of course.

I've never seen anyone other than English do it either which is funny )

My wife says no one will ever pich my skis and sticks. Can't think what she means.

Hi Adele, thanks for your response. To be honest, if someone is scoping out skis to steal, they're likely to see where you've put both of them. This tactic is only really going to determine the opportunist thief. Anyway, I would have thought that locking the skis is going to be more secure than splitting them.

If anyone knows of a lock for poles or some sort of homebrew method of securing them, then please let me know.

Nightmare if someone takes a split pair away at the end of the skiing day by mistake as they did from outside a 'bottom of the piste' restuarant in La Daille. 2 skiers(minus their owned complete matching pairs) were then somewhat out of sorts and couldn't ski again untill the culprit returned them shame faced the next day to find his rented pair.


I think a wire ski lock is a better option to prevent such a mistake.

Better still is also to keep them in sight.

btw, I am a Monoskier and i feel fairly confident that no one is going to nick mine and i'm happy with that. :lol:

having just bought a new pair of skis I decided to look out for a wire retractable combination lock for them and was just about to buy one on the bay when I spotted the identical item in "Home Bargains"for £1.29
