I intend to go skiing in April,12th.
I thought Austria would be well provided with snow and as the seasson would be about to finish I chose SOLDEN.
The reports say it's got glaciers and quite a lively nightscene.
Seems that Prices in Austria are a bit HIGH for this late seasson.Anyone knows anywhere I could head to from England(airport connexions vital)at affordable prices??
France(Trois Vallees,Alpe D'Huez), Italy (in case there would be any glacier) Switzerland (I'm afraid prices would be high as well)?? or should I stick to Austria?? Elsewhere??
I wish I coul go to USA/Canada but the airfares would be astronomic.
Thank you for your help. ) )

hi
i always ski in april as tied to school hols. I havnt tried Austria before at that time in the year but have skiied in Val Thorens, France and La Plagne, France and both have been fine but anywhere is a risk late in the season.
I suggest anywhere high. Austria does tend to have very high prices as is popular and pretty.
France is good, not sure there will be much snow left in Italy but again no experiance.
Have a look on sights like:
travel supermarket for flights or if local airports are ok try flybe for cheaper flights.
Alternativly try the big companies e.g. crystal, i have booked late deals with them very cheap if you dont mind flying from London.
Hope this is helpful!

) :-P Very useful, thanks. We are going there just before the Easter Half term school holiday is finishing 12 April.
Don't mind flying from London. In fact I use Standsted a lot (36 miles) and London City roughly the same both have good public transport links from Rayleigh(ESSEX)"Conmuter Land"
Most Tour operators depart from Gatwick (Flyer Bus Service): not a problem for me but might be for my mate as links not so good but could be sorted out.
Anyway have you heard about Direct Travel ski insurance?

I dont know anyone with direct ski insurance im afraid but the key things are to make sure they cover all injuries e.g. rescue, x-rays... and that they will give you money on ski days lost due to weather or injury. Also make sure that your ski hire is insured incase of damage.
In all make sure you are coverd for all eventualities!
Some of the ski companies have there own insurance it may be worth having a look.

a note on insurance - i've just been paid out nearly £800 by insure and go for all the medical bills including brace, ski hire, lift pass and lessons that weren't used. after the £50 excess we only lost out by about £25 :!: they dragged their heels a bit but came up trumps in the end. not much consolation though

Oh I'm glad you managed to get some money back at least - I've heard very few good experiences with travel Insurance so it's nice to hear they pay out sometimes! I know you'd rather be skiing though :(
