Just got back from Sauze D'oulx. We went over to Sestriere to watch the practice runs for the Womens World Cup Downhill. We also took along a Union Flag and draped it over the barrier we were stood against. At the end of the session we were surprised and flattered to find Chemmy working her way through hoards of italian autograph hunters to reach us for a chat. She spent about 20mins chatting with us about various things from Top Gear to biting her nails.

It was refeshing that an athelete in the top league of their game was still able to be 'normal' and down to earth and to appreciate the support from the fans.

I wonder how many sports are there left with such accessibility to it's top level players.

Nice photo's, I'm jealous always wanted to meet a real life sports personality.
Shame she came last, I wonder what is wrong this year?
Still she would have beaten me to the bottom by about an hour I expect.

I know a craftsman never blames his tools and all that but she was a second down at the first split! Something was mentioned about "skis" and "burn them" but I obviously can't remember what

I see Kim's got the pink fluffy ears in place then.

And please tell me she DIDN'T pinch Chemmy's bottom!

Great photos... love your pink ear warmers Mr ellistine - who's the guy standing the other side of her? 8)

From the TV she didn't seem to lack commitment - burn the skis!

Did you get to ski the course afterwards?

Quite a few years ago a mate and I skiied the women's downhill course at Avoriaz, the day after the race... it was just a sloping ice rink, unbelievable. We got to one point where the (Black) piste snaked right then left just below a huge bump that seemed to overhang what looked to us like a cliff. Took us a minute to realise that was where they simply "took air" to plunge down into the valley. Serious respect.

I'm taking the photo! That's Kim my other half with the pink (unbelievably expensive) Eisbar ears and my mate Howard.

The race was on the Olympic Mens Course (Banchetta). We skiid the Womens Olympic Course, which Chemmy thought was more difficult, and you're right, some of the steep bits you know full well they wouldn't have touched but would have flown staight over.
