What are the 3 valleys like to ski? I was also thinking of Morzine! What are the places like for doing things other than skiing as my old man isnt much of a skier! so would probably like to do other things now and then. ta :D

3 Valleys have fantastic skiing and should have reasonable snow even in March. I have stayed in Meribel on my two trips there and found it best placed - easy to drop over into Courchevel side and possible to make your way up to Val Thoren (though this can become a bit of a journey and I am not sure I would bother again). Also some nice skiing down to St Martin de Belleville (including one of my all time favourite pistes - the Jerusalem run).

Not too familiar with non-skiing activities - tends not to be a priority for me! However, I seem to recall that they had a very nice indoor pool and sports centre.

I was thinking of a late trip to Val Thoren in early April.

Can anyone give me any advice on whether that is too late for decent snow at that time?

Juliet - Im not sure on Val Thoren but I went to Orcierres Merlette last year towards the end of April, and it was very warm. The snow by the end of the week was pretty melted at the bottom of the slopes, and they were using the big snow ploughs each night to move snow onto the pistes, but at the top was still pretty good. It was still a good holiday, but i think i prefere proper wintery conditions to the spring conditions.

That's not particularly late. Val Thorens and handful of high French concrete carbuncles over exploit that belief, personally I started skiing in Nov' before the lifts opened and expect to be skiing at the end of May when they've all shut.

With Easter being early this year some stations will actually be closing in April as demand tails off, I'm expecting that April is going to be quiet this year and hoping we'll get some good skiing after the crowds have gone.
