I used to ski on 170 length skis and I am an execellent skier. I was wondering what length is recommened for someone who is used to 170's for the new shaped skis? I have noticed they are much shorter than the ski's I am used to. I would like to update my equipment and don't know which ski lenght will fit my style best. :D
Thanks,
Cari

What height are you? A rough guess would be to come down 20 cms but that depends on whether you used to ski relatively longer or shorter skis.

Measure your "height" from the end of your nose: that could be about the right length. Maybe a bit less.

Your best plan is to take the advice of whoever is selling or renting your skis.

If you have never carved (really carved, no skid at all) on skis before, it may be easier to learn on a shorter ski with a smaller radius, 140 to 150 or so. This may not be the length you eventually need, but speeds up the process of taking advantage of the new skis capabilities. Read a lot of ski reviews and this should give an idea of the compromises you need to make to get an all round ski, but biased to your favorite terrain. The same size person might use anything from 154cm to 180cm in length and 65mm to 85mm in waist width, depending on their needs.

Unless you have good models to follow, you may well want to take some lessons specifically aimed at modern ski technique if using skis with smaller radius sidecuts (10M to 18M).
