Hello everybody!! My friend and myself have been joking about conquering 3 countries (France, Italy and Switzerland) in 1 day of skiing. Since the instigation of this idea there has been a great deal of competative banter between us and now we are quite serious about accomplishing this mission. we have decided to call the competition "King of the Mountain."

So what i would like to know is how viable is it to ski from chamonix across the swiss and italian borders and back to cham in 1 day?

If anybody else is in cham between the 3-10th march why not join us in this venture!!

Hmmm, do-able, but a little pricey, I would say. Suggest starting from Chamonix with an early trip through the M.B tunnel with a Mountain Guide to ski the Vallee Blanche from the Italian side ascending from Cormayeur. This brings you back into Chamonix, where you can get straight on a train for Martigny. Then perhaps Verbier?. I'm not convinced you would make it back to Chamonix, but I've not checked the train times )

bandit you must have ski'd everywhere to be such a fountain of knowlege!! is the resort to the bottom right of this map (domaine de balme) quite over the swiss border? Or, if we skid down the hill past it would we hit a road in switz? All we need is to do a run in each country. If we can get up the hills on the french pass that'd be awesome then if we can ski down the valley into switzerland and get a bus straight back into cham, mission complete!!

I think this could "snowball" in to a really big event, we just need some likeminded idiots to join in the challenge!!

Rock and Roll - From italy to switzerland!!

KING OF THE MOUNTAIN 2008!!

Hmmmm, yes I did consider Vallorcine, honest :D Having skied out of there in April, I feel pretty sure that the run down to the village is still in France.
It may be worth you contacting one of Guides Agencies to see if you can descend off piste into Switzerland, and get a taxi back to the train station in Vallorcine.

Ha ha! I would have like to have skied everywhere, but I think I started a bit late. Just remember, visiting a place, and being good are 2 different things

Easy(ish) Start in La Palud (bottom of Hellbronner cable car). Up to top and do a quick run down eg Toula Glacier (warning: crevasses etc etc ) to the Pavillion. Back up to top and down the Vallee Blanche (danger, crevasses, lots of people etc etc).
Bus/drive up to Le Tour and if conditions are good over Col de Balme and down to Trient (check it's in nick first) then bus/train back.
Enjoy.
