I am going skiing for the first time in December to Borovets. I would like an idea on what clothes people wear in the evening when going out drinking. Is it mainly casual and warm? I am so indecisive when it comes to packing on any normal holiday so I really dont know what to take for the evening on a skiing holiday!!

Thanks
Helen

An, off-the-top-of-my-head, answer is that the only difference is the shoes.

Skiers have breakfast in their ski stuff, go skiing, have dinner in their ski stuff, go skiing, and drink and party in their ski stuff.

Some have been known to sleep in their ski stuff. :D

There serious answer is that it depends on where you are.
It's only a slope.

I remember last year in Saalbach listening to the clip clop of ski boots staggering past our hotel at 3am!

Coming of the piste and into a bar for a few drinks is part of what it's all about. However, having then gone back to the hotel for dinner, all we want to do afterwards is sleep. The thought of having to go back out again can be quite disturbing!

One thing to remember if you do go out in the evening, chances are it's going to be hot as hell in the bar so deffinately layer your clothing.

Helen - I usually travel in warm casual gear & my ski jacket & wear that when going out in the evening. I can't bear the smell of cigarette smoke on my clothes so in the past haven't spent too much time in bars in my ski stuff - just a quick beer stop on the way home. However, as smoking bans become more widespread, this should improve the situation. Not sure what the current legislation is in other European countries - I'll check it out.

Whatever, I'm sure you'll manage with far less stuff than you think you'll need & I agree with everyone else - you can pretty much live in your ski gear for the duration! I agree with Ellistine .... evenings are for eating & sleeping. For me it would take a superhuman effort to drag myself back out into the cold
The plan is.... there's no plan!

Italy has a smoking ban but Austria and Switzerland haven't - or at least they didn't at the start of the year. I can't imagine France having one any time soon!

France has implemented their ban, and from Jan 08, bars and restaurants should have adapted their premises.

Parts of Switzerland already have a ban.

It's also against the law to smoke on Swiss Railways.

hi helen,

i'd go for a nice casual but warm jacket, maybe a puffa type thing or fur trimed (fake of course)

ugg type boots are good as they are waterproof (ish) and very cosy.

denim isn't very warm so maybe cord trousers or moleskin?

and a nice fluffy jumper or cardy that you can whip off when you get inside - it gets quite warm with all the sweaty bodies inside a pub!
