Hi,
Me and a mate are hoping to get a early long weekend in before christmas probably the second weekend.
We were probably going to just book a few days off work and then wait for a late deal to come along, as we are not that bothered which resort we go too, as long as the snow is good.
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with booking a late deal/long weekend, and also what days do they usually run from as we do not know what days to book off (Thus, Fri, Mon or Tues).
We think this will be the cheapest was to do it and we can also wait to see what the snow is like before we choose the resort. We have considered booking everything ourselves but we reckon a all-in late deal will be cheaper?
Any information about similar experiences or advice will be great.
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris,
I've been doing weekends for the last few seasons and try to get one in before Christmas.
Pre-packaged weekends are not so common yet, so tend not to feature much in the best-value late deals. I reckon I get better value by booking everything myself, and you get total flexibility that way.
As long as it's not the Xmas / New Year weeks you'll have no trouble finding accommodation at good prices (you can haggle too as most places will be no more than half full before the end of December).
My advice (which I am following... (;^) ) would be to book some cheap flights (Geneva or Zurich usually cheapest at reasonable times - don't fly mid-day 'cos its a day wasted) NOW.
Book a hire car nearer the time (watch for extra discounts pre-Xmas from Holiday Autos in particular) - split with a mate it'll probably be cheaper than a transfer by any other means, and then you can go where you like.
Then just follow the snow...
Last year's erratic early season snow meant I ended up driving through the night to Val d'Isere - but woke up to half a metre of powder and blue skies for 3 days. I've also done Geneva-Chamonix-Meribel for a long weekend (try doing that without a hire car! actually don't...).
Just my experience,
Dave

Hi Chrisamey
We do long weekends!
Thurs night to Monday night, so only 2 days off work! We also do a mid week break Mon-Thurs.
This December the lifts in La Clusaz will be open on the 17th, so if you come Thurs night (15th) we will hook you up with ski's on the Friday, sort your passes and any lessons out and give you a briefing on the best places to ski! Saturday morning 8.30am you will be the first on the slopes for three days of superb skiing, guided by me (one of your hosts). Prices from 300pp, which includes food, accomodation and transfers. Just visit www.gravite.co.uk to find out more.
Hope I get to show the slopes in December

Hi,
We specialise in long weekends, mid week breaks so you can make use of the cheap flights. At £50pp per night fully catered we are great value, as a lot of people put on a premium for short stays.
We are situated within the Paradiski area, not far from other resorts such as Val D'Isere/tignes, Ste Foy, La Rosiere. We have snow early season and late so conditions in our valley are usually the best around. In fact for the past 7yrs or so we have skied in the tarentaise valley in April and had powder conditions.
Please checkout our website on www.skivillaroger.com, even if weve missed you this time, please bear us in mind for the next.
Chambery flights are out and we are only 11/2 hr drive away.Alternatively try Grenoble or Geneva.
Thanks
