I'm planning to buy a skid lid at some point before next season. I've read a few things about helmet/goggle compatability. In reality do most goggles fit most helmets? Does anyone know of any compatabilty charts? I have Oakley O-Frame goggles and would probably like a Salomon Helmet (somehow nearly all my other gear is Salomon, skis, poles, boots, gloves - even my bloomin day-to-day shoes! - Subliminal marketing perhaps)

Two things to watch for.

Most goggles fit most helmets, but bearing in mind that a helmet should be worn low on the brow (not on the back of the head) to protect your forehead, temples and face, I have found some goggles get pressed down on to my nose restricting air passage.

The second issue I have found, is with goggles that have a adjustment buckle centre of the strap at the back. This makes it difficult to close the goggle retention clip on the back of the helmet. So you end up with the buckle to one side and uneven tension on the strap. Goggles that have a double adjustment buckle system avoid this problem.

You can buy goggles which are made specifically for helmets they have a extra plastic around the frame that will sit neatly on the outer edges of your helmet rim.

I would ask in a ski shop, other goggles will fit but not always as elegantly as the purpose built ones.

If you're planning on buying a helmet: bring your goggles and try them on with the helmet. If you're buying a helmet and goggles, try them on together. I just bought a pair of goggles that claimed to be "helmet compatible" but were not. The strap was too short and the goggles are not flush with the top of the helmet - even when the helmet is down on my brow. Zeal goggles come with a really short strap. Great goggles, but I think it's a conspiracy; they claim to be compatible with helmets, but add that you can purchase a new strap for 14.99 if necessary. BS! spend $.02 for the extra length and be true to your claim! Sorry for the rant, but seriously, try them out together before you buy.

Perhaps I'll be better off waiting until I get to Austria next January to try some on. I'm not exaclty spoilt for choice of stockists here on the southcoast of England!

I would agree, Go to Austria and Sort it, you will have an abundance of Helmets and Goggles, you will get great advice and you will also get a better price.

I always buy my stuff at the resorts because as you know in england they will take the Euro price and offer it to you in Pounds it is so much more expensive here and the choice is limited at best.

I would also go as far to say, (and I know this is a bit of a generalisation but), typically the "experts" at the shops don't typically know what they are talking about where as at the resorts they typically do.

I would wait until you get out there.

Cheers
