Looking to book a chalet in Tignes for a group of 12 adults & 6 children but as this'll be our first time direct I need some advise please about the cheap flights. Is it best to book early or leave late? What should I expect to pay per person? How much should we budget for transfer costs from Geneva?

Thanks

Hi....I always book flights early, as a lot of the low cost airlines have a set amount of cheap seats and then they go up after this, but you can still get deals right up to the last miute at a reasonable cost....I have just paid £100 for return flights from Manchester to Chambery for March, but in January I flew BMI Baby to Geneva for £ 80 pp but booked those 3 months ahead. Depends where you are flying from but you should be looking at about £ 100 return if you shop around!! Transfers, you are best speaking to a few companies because of your party size...I always use Alpline but never donw the trip to Tignes, but I usually budgeat about £ 200 for return transfer per minibus which seats about 8 adults.

Hope this helps a bit, Jo

I always without fail book the flights with EasyJet as soon as they come out - normally Mid Summer. This time I did return to Geneva from Liverpool for about £55 all taxes in. Leave it later you are in danger of it costing you at lotta money!

I hire a car between 4 of us so cant comment on transfers, is normally a cheaper option. Also allows you to 'drive where the snow is' if the snow is not reliable. In Tignes you can easily drive to Val D

Book in advance is your best bet regarding the size of your group.
Try different companies (Ryan air, easyjet, b mi baby...) and also different airport. For Tignes you can look at Geneva, Grenoble, Lyon or Chambery, they are all about the same time (between 2 and 3hours).

From geneva you can get the bus which cost 93 euros return per person. Minibus transfer should be about the same price but quicker as they don't stop everywhere as the bus does.
If you have booked a catered chalet, ask them about transfer, most of them do it.

Cheers !
