I have been reading the various threads about these and adverts and am now a bit confused! On my one and only ski trip I did not use any - the weather wasn't that good - lots of mist and almost no sun so I didn't even use the sunglasses I had packed. I also have not worn anything in the indoor snowdome.
The question is, what exactly do I need? The ads talk about using a number of different coloured lenses for different weather circumstances - do people really go away with suitcases full of different coloured goggles??
If buying just one pair of goggles, what ought I to get - or are sunglasses enough? What is a reasonable budget, based on the fact I will only get to go away 1-2 weeks a year adn cannot afford to waste dosh! :?:
Goggles - what do I need?

Welcome to this new sport New skier!
Do not listen to all the marketing messages!!!
Here is my opinion on the issue!
I wear googles to protect my eyes! I buy only double layered lenses and I only get tints for "flat light" or snowy conditions. The two tints that are great for me are; yellow and clear lenses.
I have a pair of Bollé sun glasses that have 10 lenses which I can change at any time. Once it gets warmer or the sun is out the Bollés are on since they are 99% UV protection!
You really need googles when it snows, when it is very cold and when you ski very heavy powder!
Do not buy cheap or generic googles since your sight is very important.
Always keep googles in special "bag" to protect lenses.
Never but never keep googles on hat or tuque while skiing or in chalet. You will discover why the first time your ski down.
Hope this helps you!

Hi New skier !
I tried couple of weeks ago a Bole goggles with pink lenses and I loved it.
The morning was sunny and as the days went on it got cloudy and overcast and the goggles did the job for both conditions.
Pavelski, tell me if i'm wrong, but I think if you want buy just one pair of lenses, pink seems to be a good compromise.
If not, you have to have a least 2 different lenses dark and yellow or clear. It's the best way to enjoy your holidays in all weather conditions.
Enjoy !

Hi There,
You know if you are a new skier and you don't want to spend too much money your best bet is to buy some cheap goggles.
Your main concern should be that they are anti fog, I would speak to someone and get them to reccomend a cheap pair.
My friend bought a reasonable pair for 65 Euros in St Anton this year and they were fine in BLizzard conditions and sun.
These other more fancy goggles are more for when you are on the mountain and you are a hard skier so that you can still see the contours of the snow in poor visablity, nice to have but if you are a new skier all you are really concerned with is seeing where yu are going and protectin your eyes.
I think buy a cheap pair, probably wait until you got to your resort and spend time looking at a wider cheaper choice and when you are ready and feel it necessary you can upgrade to you £130 pair.
hope this helps
cheers
Max
