Skiing in the French Pyrenees in March

Am considering the French Pyrenees for a family ski holidays before Easter. Does anyone know what the snow is like there last couple of weeks in March?

Hi Sara. I haven't got personal experience of the area, but looking at the snow history it seems like a good bet. Take a look at Cauterets, for example, here. I was surprised how good the snow seems to be in late March.

To answer your question I would just choose your resort carefully. Lets imagine every run that finishes below 1800m (just a number) will be closed at that time of year. How many and what type of runs will you lose when that happens? I ski in Chamonix when snow level is zero at the bottom we have lost <5% of skiing. Although Admin does love to reference Chamonix resort level snow being poop in his weekly update; the depth at 1800m is the important depth at that is where everything but the home runs start (you can always bin down).

What aspect is the resort facing. If is South facing you need to be thinking about afternoon activities as likely snow will not be great. To me not having to ski in the afternoon makes this the best time of year as you can enjoy the food and wine. Kids might be less enthusiastic about this, although a good pool and toboggan run might save the day.
