I have heard that heliskiing is no longer elitist and that it is now possible for strong intermediate skiers to participate with confidence. I would like to heliski in Switzerland if possible. Can anyone help, please?

Thanks, John White

The best value heli skiing in Europe is to be found in Italy, you can heli-ski from the Espace San Bernardo which is a ski area shared between La Rosiere in France and La Thuile in Italy. The heli ski pick up is just over the French border. You can find full details on the La Rosiere website www.larosiere.net there's a section devoted to heli-skiing. All the skis schools in the village can take clients heli-skiing, you can opt for 1 or 2 lifts or take an all day trip to ski the Ruitor glacier, a 20kms route.

John,
Prepare yourself for a skiing experience you will never forget!

Heli skiing however is different and you must prepare for it.

1. Make sure you are in group with "equal" skiing level since it is "poor" form to let others wait for you in powder!

2. Make sure you are fit for "non-stop" skiing since few powder skiers stop!
You see once you have rythm, it is difficult to stop. Just like dancing!

3. Rent or get fat powder ski! It really makes a difference!

4. Get a water backpack since you will work and get thirsty!

5. Get powder leashes!

Enjoy!!!!
