Just wondered what the snowing conditions are usually like in Austria around a 1/3 of the way through march. Around the Berchtesgaden area as I am going next year.

That will depend on the amount of snow that falls between now and you trip. Should be OK, March is a good time to ski in most places, unless winter is unusually warm and dry. But I thought that Berchtesgaden was in Germany…

In most places, early-mid March is one of the best times of the year for snow depth. Most places should have a good depth of snow.

It is, an enclave that pokes into Austria not far from Salzburg.
