Hi All,

First post from me so hello everyone.

A group of us a thinking about going to Morzine over next New Year - sounds a great place.

So I thought I'd check out a webcam and was quite shocked to see no snow. I know it's in shortage across Europe, but I mean - virtually no snow .

Will we be making a mistake to assume good cover of snow or is this just effected as is the rest of the continent.

Regards

Rus, in a normal snow year, whatever that is, Morzine is usually OK, PdS has a fairly good snow record, proximity to Lake Leman etc, but this year temperatures have been way above average across most of Europe. I skied in a sweater for the firsst time ever in December. So the problem with Morzine is that it's low at around 1100 metres I believe, so when it's warm, instead of snow you get rain which washes away the snow. It also means temps have been too high to run snow cannons. For early season you can't beat height, so for the best chance of snow look for resorts which are above 1800 metres.

Thanks David,

How we wish we had a crystal ball to see next years snow.... otherwise it's a bit like pot luck.

I am thinking of buying a villa in Borovets (Samokov actually) and there's all the if and buts over that as well.
