Hi Guys,

I am trying to decide where to go this season. At the moment it's between Honshu Japan or Avoriaz France. I have been to both and know what to expect of terrain and apres ski, but conditions especially in France are a usual uncertainty.

I have heard chatter that the alps will have a late start to this season, early feb, and potentially poor compared to the last couple of years.

Would love some local or frequent alp goers to chime in and offer their thoughts..
TIA

Anyone claiming to know this is, frankly, an idiot and you should ignore them. Nobody knows what the season ahead will be like.

A single week of unusually snowy (or warm) conditions can make or break a season and modern forecasting tech is good for a maximum of 2 weeks ahead, but pretty unreliable at that timescale.

Both Avoriaz and Honshu should be good in February; you've probably more chance of "epic powder" in Japan but no guarantees either way.

Roll the dice; if you're really worried then book last minute when you know where the snow is, but you really shouldn't be worrying about February.

Thanks Admin man,

Agree with everything you've said, just trying to make my choice (which is indeed nice;) a little easier. I will be heading for the trip around 24/1 until 31/1.
