I'm looking at buying new skis for the first time in 12 years. Have thrashed my Salomon x-scream 10's to destruction, they were 179 in length and was still clocking 130+ kph last season on them. I mainly ski piste, but love to get off and out an about a bit when I ski. Looking at only buying one quiver. So needs to do all. Thinking about BBR 8.9 or CHAM 87 BLUE. Any thoughts anyone, also need to reside on length. I'm 5 10, 12 1/2 stone skied almost 30 years, will ski any run aggressively at speed. Cheers, Stuart.

I have BBR 7.5's. They are obviously not as wide but I think they are brilliant at all types of descents. However, my mate has 8.9's and he loves them, but does a lot of off piste....certainly more off than on.

Hope this helps, good luck in your choice!

Cheers Stevie. I've had a hankering for the bbr's since they came out as the same designer that did my old x-screams has done these as well, but the dynastar Cham series look really good as well, the blue version of the 87 has an extra layer of titanal to make them that bit stiffer. Choices choices.

The BBR 8.9 @176 (5'10") is my all time favourite - wonderful ski.
It can be anything you want from pootling along to crank it on an edge and it flies. Very short radius so turns on a sixpence (which I like). I found it great in crud and spring like off-piste but haven't had the opportunity to ski it in anything fresh.
Very stable at speed.
BUT - very mixed reviews. Seems to suit some people and others hate it.
Definitely want to consider something else if you have any tendency to sit back.

I don't know the Cham 87 Blue - but the orange one I have been on briefly. A really nice ski but not as nimble or stable as the BBR. Only skied on piste.

The BBR 8.9 is now called the BBR 9.0 - pretty sure the ski geometry and construction hasn't changed, just a face lift for this season.

Any chance you can demo them??

I'm about to buy new skis. To replace Rossi B2s (had X-screams before those).
Edging towards Scott Crusades, having spoken to a few people who have tested a lot of this seasons skis.

I have used the BBR 8.9 and Cham 87 - in my opinion there is no choice to make. I had an absolute blast on the BBR and as previously said they can ski anything well and are a lot of fun. As for the Cham 87 - i wouldnt spend any time on them even if i was given them - just not in the same class as the BBR.
One ski that you should consider is the Movement Jam - great in all snow conditions including knee high powder and held their edge well on hard pack but most important of all they were great fun.

Skied the 2013 Movement Jam last season in Tignes in all conditions.
A very good ski as MogulMonkey said.
Not as quick edge to edge for me as the BBR 8.9 and not as stable as BBR 8.9 at speed on hard pistes.
But not as radical looking as BBR and probably a touch more forgiving of posture etc.
