Hello! I'm a university student from England and I'm working on a project which involves designing a new product. We'd love to get some feedback on our idea - a sturdy ski lock.

Do you use a lock currently? If not, would you consider using one if you had your own skis? Currently ski locks are all rather thin cables - would you buy a more secure, rigid one that clipped around your skis (+held the poles)?

Thank you!

I don't currently but I would

Thing to consider for me is that it needs to be light to carry and quick to attach/remove or you'll either leave it behind for weight reasons or simply not bother for faff factor

Good Luck!

I have one of those combination type ones with a steel cable...not much of a deterrent but make it that bit more of a faff for someone to walk of with yours ..and you can attach them to something solid...it would be even more effective...if I used it

yep, have the cable version, it's a deterrent to the casual thief or muppett who picks up the wrong skis! At the end of the day whatever you design it's got to be light enough and compact enough to fit into a jacket pocket, otherwise it's too much of a faff having to wear a rucksac to carry it. Good luck with your project.
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

Yep, I carry two of the cable type (two in case the GF n I are likely to separate for lessons etc - she can take one with her before Tony or Icy comment lol.

It won't stop the 'professional thieves but hopefully stops the muppets...
Not ALL boarders sit in the middle of pistes.....

Hi Ren,

I also use the cable type, but have often thought there was a gap in the market. Ideally the lock needs to be solid and robust, plus big enough and flexible to allow you to put it round something else for security. However, that is likely to end up being a pain to carry around and hence off-putting for most people.

Then the flash goes off in your brain, why does nobody have a security system already attached to the skis or bindings? Always with you, and no issues with having to carry it about in your pocket. Just a thought.
