I have a few days before Christmas when I would like to take a 3/4 day break, Flights are not a problem, I will be flying into Geneva so am looking for resorts accessible from them using train preferably. Can any one recommend resorts and hotels which are open and close by. Dates 13 - 16th/17th Dec.

Probably the best bet would be Zermatt. Train from Geneva Airport, change at Visp (I think) and by second train up to Zermatt. Links over to Italy, endless accommodation (chalets, pensiones, hotels) but be prepared to pay premium prices. Perhaps consider taking one of the public coach links to, say, Tignes, Val d'Isere or La Plagne from Geneva airport to these resorst. Don't forget, aim for a high resort as snow could be a bit iffy this early in the season.

Hi
You could try Les Collons/Thyon, this is the first week of our season normally. If you like I can check with our local tourist office to confirm for you?.
It's just 1 hour 45 mins drive from Geneva, I have lived locally for over 5 years so please feel free to pick my brains on anything.
Have a good weekend
Best wishes Helen

Done Samoens in the Flaine ski area. Flaine is dead ugly but great skiing and fantastic snow record. Been there when rest if Europe suffering poor snow and Flaine well above average. Samoens smaller village but with no resort runs. Gondola back every night. Not a bad thing on tired legs. About 1 hour by taxi from Geneva. Last time stayed in Les Glaciers hotel. 2 or 3 star but free wifi. Went for 4 days quick break with my son. The hotel was really accommodating. Let us into our room at 9am on the day we arrived and let us change in their sauna area, and shower, after skiing on last day at 5pm. Perfect from Geneva.

Agree Grand Massif but Les Carroz tops Samoens or Flaine - ski back to resort and just 15 mins from the train station at Cluses
