Hi All,
Im off to sauze d'oulx, italy on jan 7th and im getting worried that the snow conditions wont be great.
whats everyones thoughts on the current weather in Europe? Looking at the forecasts there isnt much happening again this week. I dont normally go skiing this early on so im not sure what the snow is like at that time of year.
with only a month to go am worrying over nothing?!?

Forny, in my opinion you are definitely worrying over nothing. Last year in the French Alps there was next to no snow, except up at the highest levels, until the first week of December. Before then the mountains were green/brown. There were three days of heavy snowfall in the first week of December. I had a great week's skiing at Alpe d'Huez in mid December a a result.
If my memory serves me I think that you would have to go back to 1992 for poor snow in January in the higher resorts.
Having said this , of course, you can never be sure! But on the basis of probability statistics I am sufficiently confident of good snow in January to have made plans to be in the Massif Des Grandes Rousses for good skiing for the month of January. only some 80 or so kilometres from Sauze d'Oulx.
Have a great time in the Milky Way next Jan.

Sure - it doesn't look 'good' at the moment - but there are a few promissing factors.
This winter is predicted to be wet or wetter than normal. Most resorts at a reasonable altitude can therefore expect snow. In the event that temperatues (stay) high - than we have to hope that the precipitation falls at night - when it's almost guaranteed to be 0 or below.
It's a slow start - but with luck a couple of good days heavy snow fall, all worries evaporate.
