Hi There

I am at the point where I can't wear contact lenses and read a piste map :-), so I need to get some goggles with a prescription insert, or some I can wear glasses with.

I'm worried about them fogging up all the time and not having great peripheral vision, and they're damned expensive so I don't want to make a costly error!!

Has anyone got any advice or can recommend any good solutions?

Thanks in advance

Hi. I bought some Bolle OTG Modulator Vermillon which I have been wearing over my glasses for the last two years.

These have never once steamed up on me and due to the Modulator lenses are okay in most conditions - bear in mind the 2 seasons I have been I have skied in comparatively good/sunny weather. On the few days where it was serious snow or very flat light I only experienced the issues others in my group had with changing conditions. If you do go down the OTG route try some first as other makes I tried didn't fit as comfortably over my glasses - note if your glasses have big lenses or chunky frames it may be an issue (mine are fairly normal with rectangular lenses).

Basically try before you buy!

Hope that helps.

I too have some Bolle Modulators in Vermillon Gun Racing Snake and they have a prescription insert in them. The modulator works well in all but the most extreme light

I bought them from rxsport on the web and they were very good in terms of test pairs to send out etc

I buy all my Oakleys (sunglasses, prescription sunnies, prescription glasses) from there and they are dirt cheap and excellent service - I have NOWT to do with this firm, just good service

I've been in the same scenario for years - cant wear Contacts and won't do the laser thing. Finally last year avoided the fogging thing after years of experimentation - i wear a helmet not a hat and use Smith Phenom turbo goggles - they have a small fan that exhausts the moisture and clears the lens of my glasses.

I did have the smallest frames for my prescription specs already amd went to try the non fan Phenom goggles on for size - they're a medium frame but Smith do other fan versions of some of their other models. Not cheap tbh but they work. I got the jack of all trades tint lens which was fine until it was really bright - i've picked up a pair of Red Sol-X lens to cover that eventuality this season.

Last year I bought the Smith Turbo goggles. They make a few models, have lens inserts and a small two speed fan. They do work, usually keep the fan on low speed but sometimes have to kick up to high. Fan noise can be a bit annoying at times, but only wear them on nasty days.

Most days I have custom made prescription sunglasses, polarized yellow with digitally cut progressive wrap around lenses. Very high tech but awesome, lol.

Hi Everyone

Thanks very much for your replies. I have made a decision and gone for a pair of Oakley Airbrake Goggles with a prescription insert. You get interchangeable Iridium and Persimmon goggles which makes them a 2 in 1 solution. Mind you, for the price they should be that and more.
I go on the 26th so I'll post a report afterwards to let you know how they performed

Thanks again

John
