Damn i wish i was in the Canadian Rockies right now!!!
Plenty of snow, very very cold (Banff -25c soon!!). Far cry from the warm world of Europe. Is this a sign of climate change or just an unusually start to a season??
La Clusaz is set to be 16c early next week  Crazy weather, and bad news for the Alps!!
Alps with record HIGH temps and Rockies with nearly record LOW temperatures!

Last year the pacific north west didn't do so well. Many ski hills in Washington state were dry and warm into January. The US and Canada depend on the mysterious movements of the jet stream which oscillates over the continent. It moves around, but occasionally will sit in one position. If you are under the northerly flows you are cold and if you are not - you are warm.
Our season in the upper midwest is three weeks behind schedule with near record high temps. Luckily the jet stream moves on next week and we drop into minus daytime temps. We don't need humidity for real snow, as the ski hills can make all the snow. The bennifit of that is, I don't have to shovel (ok, I do have a snow blower) my drive way.

Last year many of the big French ski resort mountains were green, except at the very top, until the end of November. Three days of dumping occurred at the beginning of December. I had an excellent week's skiing in the middle of that month. The season subsequently turned out to be a very good one except for a brief period in February.
On the other hand I can recall occasions when temperatures have risen to 15C in the middle of January with rain as high as 2800 metres.
Keep your fingers crossed. A change of weather is perfectly possible in the next two or three weeks with the, then, possibility of good skiing from mid December onwards. On the other hand....
Having said all of this it is generally speaking much safer, from a 'good snow' perspective to ski from New Year onwards.
