Been listening to Pavelski et al about having "quivers" and as my current ski is a GS race ski I was thinking of dipping my toe in the water and buying a pair of Blizzard TITAN CRONUS (refurbed 2009) ..they might get rid of that sinking feeling every time I go into anything deeper than 2"...any thoughts

Agree, rent some when the conditions are right.

Daved, it's an old ski, with an all mountain profile, not really more off piste than any other. I think I'd save my money for now, and take a lesson in the soft stuff on your regular skis.

Do you want to ski in powder without learning the skills? Plenty of folks do, just buy a fat (ish) pair and ski the same as you do on piste. The skillset is the same, most of the learning is about fore and aft balance, and coping with external pressure.

Suggest skis like:

Atomic Access
Volkl Mantra
K2 Hardside

All of which have decent capability on groomed and in soft stuff.

Thanks for the info Bandit I shall be looking in the hire shop for these skis as you`re recommendations for skis in Engleberg were spot on.

If you're looking for something inexpensive check out the Coreupt Slasher, on offer at Ekosport in France for 220 Euro.
