Ok <a href="http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0%2c1413%2c36~45~1933693%2c00.html" target="_blank">this is kind of sad</a>. Whatever happened to the purity of the mountain?
Does this guy just have more money than sense (or soul), or do any of you guys ski with a fleet of trucks to carry your gear???
How much gear do you have?

What kind of gear do people consider useful? I do a lot of ski touring and you really think carefully about what to take. On the technology side the following finds its way into my rucksack:
1. mobile phone (rarely turned on)
2. sighting compass
3. digital camera
4. avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe
5. Sunnto Altimeter watch
and that is about it apart from the usual stove, tent, sleeping bag etc. Too much gear weighs too much when climbing and just makes everything hard to find and how do you power it all?
Skiing off-piste I may take my GPS, but really just to record what I've done not where I'm going and sometimes I take some walkie talkies so we can coordinate when skiing suspect pitches.
The thing that shocks me most is how much you can pay for a pair of skis now... 600 Euros seems to be the norm. When did they get so expensive?
I think the essentials are a mobi, avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe (oh, and a rucksack's quite handy...) if you're venturing off-piste. So long as you remember to switch the mobi off...
Useful? Dunno, guess much of Davidof's kit is only needed for ski touring / randonee but the altimeter watch is on my gadget wishlist and maybe GPS one day (probably when combined into the watch!) but that's about it.
Oh and I do tend to carry goggles, hat and an extra fleece in the rucksack when I remember - and sometimes a spare pair of gloves if it's wet.

Many more trips to S & R for that last "essential" item, and things could very quickly get out of hand.

In your prayers, you'd kinda hope not - all the gear, no idea. Just like the American Army!

Don't expect he can afford to ski, after buying all that gear :))
