Hi, we want to spend the winter in a ski resort that has a good nightlife  - I've heard Val d'Aosta is cool - anyone got any opinions??? Cheers, Aidan

The skiing's good (Alagna, Champoluc, Courmayeur) but not so sure about the nightlife. Courmayeur's not bad but it's not cheap... the Monte Rosa resorts are all pretty quiet (but the skiing's good - did I mention that? :-) ).

Have you considered Chamonix? Definitely lively at night, good skiing, and only a tunnel away from the Aosta Valley if you want to go exploring for a week or two the other side.

Courmeyer is probably the best of the Aosta resorts but I'm not sure I'd want to spend a whole seasom there. La Thuile is a very nice resort with some surprising good skiing especially the Black runs back down through the trees and the link to La rosiere in France but it's not the liveliest place you'll ever visit. Agree with the suggestion to base yourself in France, if you stayed in La Rosiere for example you'd have Vald'Isere, Tignes, Les Arcs and Ste Foy all within 40 minutes travel and you'd be able to ski Italy on the same great value lift pass.
