Hi All,

Heading to Kitzbuhel for almost a week beginning 12th February and wanted to check options for good off piste skiing.

Interested in current/forecast snow conditions, best areas for resort accessed off piste skiing (no touring set up currently), and recommendations for guides (and potentially heli options).

I am advanced level (skiing since i was 3).

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Best,
Geds.

It's been years since I've skied in Kitzbühel but this will be remedied when I go a week on Saturday-please report back on your experience and any hints. Obvious answer is to find a guide; I'm going to try and meet up with a mate who's teaching in St Johan and plan to get a guide for another half/full day.

I was in Soll early this year and it was awesome, thing is with this much snow you can pretty much ski anywhere which makes resorts like Soll and Kitz which are best suited to Intermediates as challenging as you want to make it.

The Hahnenkamm area has some good off-piste skiing in the trees. The Kitzbüheler Horn is worthy of a half day visit and there's some good off piste to be found. From memory the better areas are up above Pass Thurn, due to the altitude and orientation he slopes there hold any powder better than anywhere else in the area.

Thanks Grizwald!

I have done some research online (probably should have started with that).. and apparently Fieberbrunn which is 30 minutes drive away is fantastic off piste skiing and is a natural powder trap.
Also the area to the side of Kitzbüheler Horn (forget the actual name) is currently being redeveloped and they are providing snow cat based trips up the mountain for free riding enthusiasts.
Hope you have a good time. The temperatures are still cold (as you probably know) but are scheduled to get a little less so over the coming week.

Any further recommendations on good guides, or people who have been recently would be gratefully received!

Cheers,
Geds.

Geds, It certainly looking great for my trip at the weekend heavy snow today and tomorrow and then easing up Friday then dry for the weekend.

I'm using Blacksheep for some guiding whilst the OH is getting lessons. I used them in Soll and they're excellent.

Hi Grizwald,
So Kitzbuhel turned up ok but not without frustration..
Had a good couple of days in fresh powder (and bad weather) including a great half day guided in Fieberbrunnen (guide was Ottmar from the local ski school - very happy with him). We had 60cm fresh powder at the bottom of the mountain - top was closed due to avalanche risk.. Then just as the weather started to clear with a meter of fresh powder, I came down with my worst case of the flu for years!
I would definitely recommend Fieberbrunnen.. Relaxed, great off piste, cheaper than kitzbuhel.
Looking forward to making up for lost time next weekend in Wengen/Murren.. Any tips on good off piste options from this group gratefully received!
Thanks again,
Geds.
