If you are going to buy a helmet how important is the gender of the helmet? Are men's heads that different to women's? Or is it mainly a style thing? If the helmet is the right size is this enough for safety concerns?

I would say the fit would be more important than anything else, but could not see me wearing a pink helmet!

All the ones that I like seem to be 'Men's'. If there's no difference in fit I'm quite happy with masculine headwear.

Wait for the experts to come along. I imagine the mens ones are bigger so they may not have the small sizes that would be more suited to women. And colour?

If you like the mens helmets, give them a go and see where you get ;)

Mekka, if you like the helmet, it fits okay and it's not too expensive then don't worry about the fact that it's meant for a man.

I've got men's salopettes, ski boots, and ski jacket, and a child's ski helmet, and the skis I hired were men's as well. No-one seems to have noticed that anything was awry (or at least they've never said anything and I didn't see whole crowds of people falling over with laughter every time they saw me on a ski slope!).

My head is very small which is why the kids' helmet fits me. Some people have big heads and some have small ones and I think it's more about genetic inheritance than gender.
