Hey guys,
I'm skiing at Fernie, BC this coming Sunday. In the last week they've gotten 155cm of snow and theyre expecting another 10-20cm in the next two days. Sounds like it'll be tons of powder.
I've got a pair of hand-me-down Atomic Drive 11s, which as far as I know are originally made for groomed conditions. Do I absolutely need to rent a set of powder skis in order to have a good time in the powder or will mine hold up just fine? I'm new to the west coast and to powder in general and just want to make sure I have a set of skis that I can get down the hill on.
Really appreciate your input!

Relax, there will be plenty of groomed runs. Big ski resorts are customer oriented. They do not want thousands of unhappy groomer skiers never coming back. If it snows in the early hours you may have a few inches of powder on top of the groom, but only in the steeper sections will that get moguled out. Today there was 53 groomed trails groomed at Fernie :D

If there is lots of powder available, then it's an opportunity. Talk to the ski school, rent for one day and get a powder lesson.
A few inches 0f powder on a groomed run is FUN
