We're looking to buy skis for our six year old for her 3rd year on skis. We bought 2nd hands skis in a skip that are under shoulder height. Her teacher told us that they should be eye height or just below (Frecnh Teacher ESF). The Dutch skishop disagrees and feels it is unsafe for her to use such long skis.
Anyone have any adise to offer. Would be grateful before we go and change anything out just yet. Thanks!

Sounds a bit short to me. My six year old had lots of fun with his chin height skis. They were just a little short for him according to his Canadian instructor. If you google search this topic, you will find most will advice ski length to be around the face area ( ie. Between the chin and eyes).

Thanks. That seems to be most of the advise I am getting other than in the shop. Could be a Dutch safety perception but given we only have one official hill, rarely snow, I'll put my faith in the skiing nations and get her longer skies. Thanks for helping out. Any other views out there welcome...

More important is the side cut radius. That determines how the ski behaves more than length. At six you should be looking for about 5 to 8 metre radius skis. If she only skis occasionally shorter will speed learning and be more fun.
because I'm so inclined .....
