I may be in Scotland around the end of March, maybe April - is that going to be too late, or is it worth me taking my gear just in case?

Cairngorm, being the highest may still have snow into April. We have school holidays the first two weeks, so it may be busy.
Nevis Range is the next highest and the likely to have the last of the sking too.
The other runs depend on weather conditions and may be patchy.

Skied Cairngorm until mid-April this year. The intermediate runs are just about finished but the green runs still have a week left which is perfect for kids and beginners.
