Anyone been to Zauchensee/Flachau/Wagrain etc? We're heading there a week on Sunday, and apart from the official website, I'm finding it quite hard to get any info on these places. Any of you kind folk been and got some feedback?

Cheers

We went to Filzmoos last March with Inghams. It was our second time skiing, so still beginners. Stayed in the Hotel Hammerhof, owned by the Ebner family. They were lovely, couldn't do enough for us. Really nice room and the food was great. As well as the usual buffet breakfast they offered to make us anything hot we wanted like ham and eggs.

Filzmoos is a small village, very friendly. There's one gondola lift and some chair lifts I think. We stayed on the nursery slopes but our friends are seasoned skiers and they seemed to think many of the blue runs should have been classified as reds.

Ski school was very helpful (there are two in Filzmoos - can't remember which one we used). We hadn't pre-booked but they fitted us in and OH and I had private lessons anyway.

There's a free ski bus that goes to other resorts. I think our rep. recommended doing this for advanced skiers. I understand Filzmoos is more geared towards beginners and intermediates.

The day we arrived it was raining and the snow was disappearing at resort level, but the next day it snowed really hard, which made a huge difference. I think it has a reasonable snow record.

I don't know if that helps!

Thanks Ally. We're staying in Altenmarkt, and everybody is different levels of Skiing or Boarding, so might have to get the beginners to give Filzmoos a try.

Hi alexcavers,

I went to wagrain last april with my school!

We skied the wagrain/flachau area and also the wagrain/alpendorf area! It was fantastic i had such a good time! Altenmarkt is linked to radstadt providing a limited area, if i were you i'd head here first day then off up to zauchensee and also get busses to flachau and also into wagrain!

The lift system i found to be very effiecient and up to date aswell!

The flachau/wagrain area provides many off piste skiing through the trees!

A food i found very nice for lunch was tiroler grostl! It's basically fried potato and onion with a fried egg on top with some salad on the side! Very filling and very nice!

I'll put some pics below they are all of the grafenberg area of wagrain which is the right side linked up too alpendorf!

It's not the biggest resort, but I have great memories of Filzmoos.

Thanks folks.

Good to hear what other people think, as sometimes I think that if you just read the official stuff then you don't get any of the real story.

Also, good to hear that you have hazy memories, tino. That suggests that the bars should be pretty good, no?
