I've just bought my first pair of boots and wondered what the deal is with travelling with them? Can you take the as hand luggage?

I have snowboard boots, I wear them on the plane :lol:
...and take that on as hand luggage, or do you put that in as checked in baggage, because airlines seem to suddenly be getting very hot on the size and weight of your hand luggage. First Choice made me take some stuff out of my hand luggage, a small Nike sports bag, as they said it was over 5kg. I had to drink a lot of water very quickly.

I've always put them in the hold, and depending who you fly with there may not be any extra charge

I always pack them in my suitase, having seen many pairs of ski boots in their silly little bags coming off the conveyor belt in lots of little pieces. You dont need many clothes for a weeks skiing to be honest.

Ski boots as hand baggage are an area of confusion at the moment - last season there were airports that wouldn't allow them, whilst some did, but also different policies for different airlines (and even different routes)...
Either wear them and deal with the ridicule 8) or pack them inside a big bag for the hold; less chance of a "sports equipment" supplement then - and, as Tony points out, they'll be much better protected that way.

Fill the boots with socks, and put them at the bottom of my rucsac.

Rucsac goes in as checked baggage. If there is no clear policy on boots as hand baggage, I don't want the hassle of repacking. There is no advantage as yet, since I have not managed to get two weeks ski gear into hand bagge size.
Easyjet don't seem to have a weight limit for hand baggage.
