i agree with oopalley.
Morzine is great - *50 mins from Geneva *a range of slopes (avoriaz at 1800m if the snow is poor lower down) *access to the pistes for non skiers to meet for lunch *nice hotels with pools and stuff (though depends on when you go as i tried for new year and they are all booked) some have saunas, pool tables, indoor cinema type things. try this link http://skisnowboardeurope.com/avoriazetmorzine/lodging.html for all the hotels listed and it tells you which ones have pools. *picturesque town, lovely bars, restaurants, skating rink, ice hockey to watch, dog sledging - all sorts really! morzine is an all year round town too so it's not purely set up around skiers and the rest of the group may find other activities not publised on ski websites. good luck! sarah |
I'm rather tempted by the Spyder range too...
I've got my heart set on a £400 ski jacket (Ladies Diamond) which i've currently got a search running on ebay for! otherwise - do a google search and I came up with some stores that were cheaper than the other ones. Captainscabin i think was one of them. as for it's performance - couldn't tell you! I got an alpha industries one which was pretty good, very waterproof (but i really wanted something with the faux fur (must be the fashionista in me) and it was £50 from TK maxx! (it was my first skiing holiday though! - there's was no point in spending a fortune unless i was sure i was going to like the sport!) I guess it's like buying a good suit or designer handbag - it's all about cost per wear. if you are going to have it year on year like a trusty old friend then it will prove its value. if not and you are planning on changing it every year - buy a cheap one. cheerie |
i think ellis brigham have a shop in fort william?!
might be worth getting up there for a weekend or something early dec (snow permittnig) and actually trying them out over the course of a few days and going back to the shop to make adjustments. otherwise Glasgow? i think i've been in that shop - good selection - you reckon they are expert fitters? thanks for the advice. sarah |
Me too! Thumbs up for Morzine!
I'd never been on a skiing holiday before and had only skied on dry about 10 years ago! I loved it - beautiful town, nice selection of bars/rest and not too boozy/clubby but still good places to go till the wee sma' hoors. 50 mins from Geneva (where the cheap airlines fly to) Pistes around the pleney (main chairlift) are dead easy...greens to easy blues but get progressively harder, especially on the way over to Les Gets! Great ski school and loads of decently priced hire shops. It's got everything...i really liked it! |
I need a fitter who is mega skilled as i have MASSIVE calves (sexy huh?) and my boots were agony last year as i only rented them and it took three days to get them to the point where i cuold wear them for more than a few hours.
Can anyone recommend a superb boot fitter. Have car, will travel, even to London (from Edinburgh) Cheers |
It's nearly October! That means flight prices are going up and up and up!
was anyone thinking of getting away for new year and wanted to form a group? if so let me know. cheers |
We've booked an AWESOME apartment in the buzzy town of Morzine, about an hour from Geneva.
Due to drop outs - there's two spaces available - either for a couple (double beds) or two singles. We've got a nice friendly and manageable group - the apartment holds eight people very comfortably and none of us know each other so it should be a great laugh getting to know everyone. Bring some ice-breaking games with you! Here's the lowdown Deposit is £75 and needs paid asap. Final balance of £175 due by 4/11/06 (YES - that's really only £250 pp/pw from the 30th Dec-6th Jan!!) All self catering but cooking will be wholesome and tasty - not a la carte. be prepared for pasta and casserole type dishes! Most of us will be flying into Geneva so you should be able to arrange a private transfer for a decent amount or all jump on a bus. We'll be having a wicked hogmany party so bring your dancin' shoes!! Please email me at twistedfairymagazine@gmail.com if you are GENUINELY interested. Many thanks! |
