Great Truths About Old Skiers
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 3 Replies
No No, In skiing you will always find new barriers ( I rather called them new challenges) ! That is what keeps you young.
Remember once you are over the hill,,,,you go faster down!

You are right however, I used to ski with the idea to get maximum skiing for my lift ticket. It was always a distance/time battle. Now I have new attitude in skiing;
I am in it for the long haul thus know it is the "marathon' attitude that prevails

I am in skiing for the experience of freedom

The "little moments" last a life time.

Hope Santa was nice to you Trencher!
More and more skiers are "single" and wish to meet someone to share the skiing experience. Here are a few "sample" messages.

1. Mature British male, noble grey looks, using Rossignol Z9 looking for Z8 or lower level skier. Male or female.

2. Romance is dead in France. So is my mother! Man 42 with great Volkl 190 cm skis . Inherited wealth so will pay for your skis and holiday

3. To some, I am a world of temptations. To others I can go "off-piste" and others just another cross-dressing ski instructor.

4. Ex-ski racer with the need for speed. If you wax skis, bevel edges and take only 2 minutes to put on skis, call me.

5.This message may not be the most "attractive" but I do have chalet in Tignes, and have a set of Rossignol Mutix for you and I smell great!

6. Love is strange-----wait till you see my feer! Will accept any skiers with boot size larger than 375!

7.Blah blah blah,,,,,,indifferent women skier from Scotland! Go ahead and write me,,, we might ski together,,, See if I care!

8. My skis are Fischers RX9. base structured at 60 degrees diagonal,DIN set at 8.9 ( but can go up to 10 if you want), 175 cm. is all I can take. Looking for female in the 3,5-5 DIN range, must not own twin tips and desire serious park loops! Waiting for you!

9. I like women like I like my skis. Long, lean and fast. If you like to be tuned after every ski day call me. Nothing shorter than 180 cm. since I do not like those new "shaped" models.

10. Seeking British male skier with 17 degree inclined ski boots,a flex of 120 and at least a profile of; 126 - 65- 106. Must be able to keep up with a 140- 62-122 and a radius of 13m. If you can"t keep up, don't bother!

1. Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional

2. Forget the health foods,,,,,I need all the preservatives I can get

3.When you fall down while skiing, you wonder what else to do while you"re down there.

4.You are getting old when you get same sensation from a rocking chair that you got riding old chair lifts

5. Its frustrating when you have all the skiing answers, but no one bothers to ask you the questions.

6. Time is great healer, but lousy beautician

7. Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

8. You know you are old when 5 year old helps you off chairlift.

9. You know you are old when you look for the laces in the ski boot liner!

10. You know you are old, when you hold the chair support cable to go up hill!

These are but a few gems! Can the mature skiers in this site come up with more!

If you are 50 or less you are not considered mature enough to comment. Only the serious immature +50 skiers are allowed to comment!

Enjoy!

I try to be positive in all my projects however safety issues require that I post some points YOU MUST NOT DO!!

I suggest , if you are beginner, that you print this list and paste in front of work area.

All the following statements should start with, DO NOT......

1. heat cold skis ( allow ski to get to room temperature)

2. touch base with bare hands ( you will discover why)

3. touch edges with bare hands ( your doctor will tell you why)

4. use harsh chemicals ( your skis will tell you why)

5. leave iron plugged ( your local fireman will tell you why)

6. leave hot iron on workshop area ( see above)

7. leave hot iron on skis ( even to answer phone)

8. use dull knife

9. allow iron to smoke wax

10. use cheap tools

11. wax after party or during party

12. smoke while tuning

13. scrap hot wax off base

14. scrap wax off edges with metal scraper

15. place skis base to base without paper, towel rag etc...between bases

16. touch hot wax

17. over-torque ski vices

18. use ordinary sand paper

19. place skis near heat ( furnace, electric heater, propane heater etc..)

20. Lend tuned skis to friend ( you will never get them back)

Just think "safety" at all times.

Merry Christmas to you all!
I did not realize that YOU TUBE had so many wax videos.
There is waxing craze going on around the world.

The precise video is called Wax by Lyndon1 . It is 6.09 minutes long and sent 9 months ago.

To locate video; go to sports section, type in wax and scroll until you find Lyndon1 video.

You should see adolescent male "trying to show" how to wax skis.

Title should be, "How to blow up my parents house"!!!!
First assignment to group in class.

Many times we learn from watching people do procedures INCORRECTLY.

Over the holidays watch on YOU TUBE a video entitled, "WAX"!

Make a list of 10 major mistakes or errors in the video.

This will be used to determine who will get free ski vices at end of class.

There at at least 15 major mistakes in video!

Report due January 1, 2007 via PM

Merry Christmas to you all!

A great deal of pleasure!
Several persons asked me to clarify the presentation on QFL.

This microscopic layer is not created by "skating on ice or skiing on snow"!

This microscopic layer is present all over the ski runs BUT in varied states due to; varied temperature on slope, varied sun exposure, varied wind action.

This zone is very much like the "sheer" zone in snow which causes avalanches due to a fault between one type of snow and another type of snow. However the QFL is at microscopic level

Here is an analogy of QFL that you will not forget. Think a school dance at the elementary school. The girls all against one wall of the dance room, while the boys are are at the other wall. Moving about but not "bonding" ( that will take some years and more chemistry). Between the two groups is a zone which is "fluid"!
The same situation occurs at the atom level in the QFL. The top atoms are vibrating horizontally and NOT mixing with the other atoms. They are the boy atoms. Highly agitated and changing the state of the upper part of this layer into a liquid, solid and gas! What state depends on; temperature, humidity, sun light etc...
It is an unstable layer thus causing sliding!!!!

Hope this clarifies the concept!
