What a cruel twist of fate :( Here's wishing your OH a speedy recovery. The stress of caring for a loved one can take it's toll so take good care of yourself too.

Hi Jobster

Terrible news but glad Rich is OK. Thats the main thing in the short term.

While I can't really offer too much help in relation to skiing post heart attack, I don't see why not (obviously in consultation with your doctors, etc). My brother had a heart attack about 3 years ago(on the 1st day of his Summer holidays in Italy, as it happened). Thankfully, it was reasonably mild and he made a excellent recovery. So much so that he was able to come on a pre-booked lads golf long weekend to Spain just 2 months later and play golf each day. He did have to take it a bit easier than usual (grab a few naps here and there and only a small amount of booze - yes, the doctors were happy for him to have a few glasses of wine or beer that soon after the attack) but otherwise was fine. Since then, he leads a full and normal life and plays golf on a very regular basis.

Obviously, he will have to go through some rehabilitation treatment and possibly some changes to lifestyle - no smoking, obviously, probably a more strict diet and possibly some restraint on the booze. You will both also have to deal with the issue of not thinking of him as a delicate creature ready to break at any time (the rehab will probably include some counselling on such issues). Other than that, I would be very hopeful that he should be able to get back into skiing.

Best of luck. All your friends on J2ski will be thinking of both of you.

Conor

Jobster,
First let me share with you,,, your "stress" and give you hope!

The fact that he asked about skiing,,tells you all!

Of course he can ski again!

But,,,,he must learn to listen to his body!

I did not have such a major medical event,,however I was told that I could not and would not ever ski again! This was after a minor operation!

In effect the operation made me a better skier,,since I had no more pain!

If you look at all the research published on health and wellness, physical exercise is the basis of a long life! It is the level and type of exercise which must be modulated and adapted!

Three months after operation, I could barely do 30 minutes of skiing. So I stopped! Then I did 60 minutes and so on,,until now I can do 7 hours easily!

With hope your husband will recover faster since he has goal!
With hope your husband soon be skiing,,and perhaps even better since I suspect he will have more oxygen going to muscles!

Just take time!

Give him hope!

Keep us updated on progress!

So sorry to hear your news, get well soon. I deal with heart attack patients every day. The majority of them do have to take things a litle easier than previous, ie listen to your body. But most go back to their activities including Ski-ing. The ones that dont, never did any activities in the first place. Plus age and fitness is on Hubbys side.
My Dad had a major coronary 10 years ago at age 65, he was wanting to do all the things he previously had done and felt well enough but it was my Mum who was stopping him doing everything. I needed a little chat with her about letting him enjoy himself. It worked and he now says he cycles further and faster than he used to, play a better round of golf and can walk the hind likes off me. His blood pressure and cholesterol levels are better than mine, and he is 75.
So good luck, look after yourself and do what the Doc says.
I'm a laydee

Wishing him a speedy recovery.

As has been said, take it gently, but there's every reason to expect to be skiing again soon.
