Thanks for the pointers. I'll have a look at the Dakine High Roller and the bag you posted a link to Hirsty. The Dakine is a fair bit more expensive, is it any better padded or would I just be paying for the name? I've seen the way baggage handlers treat bags so would like to get something that offers as much protection as possible to my kit.

I normally fly with two boards and a pair of skis. The boards lay together w/o bindings and the skis on top. I take the bindings off the skis to reduce the chance of damage. I use layers of sheet packing foam and thicker sleeping pad foam between and around the boards/skis. The bindings are wrapped in clothing and other clothing fills in the gaps. It is easy to go over the weight limits so boots (board and ski) are in the second bag. It is worth keeping an eye out for useful packing materials. One of my most useful finds are these slotted foam strips that are used to protect fibreglass shower units in transit.
