perros1 says that the Bregenzervald area offers wonderful skiing for all levels, eminently reasonable and hassle free. Been going there for many years basing myself in Egg and skiing shetteregg or Warth for high altitude. Always drive there to maximise economy. Unlikely to meet a fellow brit. Distinct advantage! Avoid the Dutch holiday period which this year is week commencing 18th. Feb and known as "Crocus Week". Nothing racist its just that they found this Gem years ago and totally fill it.

Nobody has mentionned the Montafon Valley, Schruns-Tschagguns are in the centre and you get there by train. Easy skiing for various levels and the sites are connected except Gargellen.

Whist we are on the subject my mature group of good skiers who like a bit of Apres have over the last 8 years skied Schladming and Soll. Two excellent ski regions. Soll wins the vote for us because of the Apres and proximity to the slopes and Apres from our centrally placed hotel. We are thinking of somewhere else next year which will have the same skiing variety, Apres and simialarly priced. Zell am Zee has been suggested any views or recommendations. We have done Mayrhofen and although the skiing and Apres was great the queues to get up and down the mountain were a huge chore.

Try Saalbach-Hinterglemm - Saalbach for the variety of skiing and nightlife, Hinterglemm for nicer gentler slopes and quieter - although they have the night skiing from there. We visited Zell Am See for an afternoon, very pretty, but you do get dropped off in the middle of the town and have to find your way to your hotel with all your kit - which may not suit some. S-H would suit you fine!
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!

Considering how the current season is going, do you think Saalbach would be a good choice for 3-10 March?

And which other large Austrian resort would you advise for a higher intermediate on-piste skier (black slopes included) for the week before, 25 February - 3 March? I'm thinking Kitzbuehel or Sant Anton....

I've been to Mayrhofen-Hintertux and Ischgl before, especially loved Ischgl for the wonderful slopes.

Thanks a lot for your advice!

I used to have it on a T shirt, my current one states SKI NOW, WORK LATER!! :D which I got from my local Mountain Warehouse, I think they still do them, and they do a 'BOARD NOW, WORK LATER' for those on the dark side!

Not that I have too many bad days in the office..
