I've got three 20 litre jerry cans. I usually have between 20 and 40 litres of petrol at any one time.

Not as back for the car but for the mower (which takes 7.5 litres), chainsaw and strimmer.

Never had any trouble filling them up before now but bet I would if i tried this week.

Queued for 15 minutes to fill up my car (7 mile range left in tank  - they say we are only ever 3 meals away from anarchy but it's more like one tank full of fuel...

 Tell me about it, this is crazy

I am down to 40 miles range (which in real terms is probably 25) but three stations near me are "out" of petrol, and the 4th had a queue nearly 40 cars long trying to get in it

Do idiots not realise that even if they do agree to strike, they need to give SEVEN days warning, so all these *****'s that are topping off in panic right now, will be out of fuel when the strike happens anyway.

Now I am going to have to try and get some later this evening to make sure I can get to work tomorrow.

And while I am ranting, why can the media and left wing politicians not realise that the comments about filling a jerry can are pretty irrelevant anyway! Unless you live in the country, how many people do you know who actually have jerry cans in their garage? And at £30 for a 20 litre can, it would cost you almost a £100 to get enough cans to keep just one tankful of fuel for a normal car, plus the cost of the fuel on top. I really cannot believe that anyone would bother doing that, and anyone who does have jerry cans was going to fill them up anyway, no matter what a cabinet minister said on tv. He used the term jerry can in error to describe one of those 5 litre things you use to fill your lawn mower. Get over it peeps!

Rant over.

Well said sir.

I am one of these people who actually needs fuel in large amounts on a regular basis, for running my business. Queuing for half an hour whilst watching pensioners squeeze another £7 in is pathetic, especially when most of these cars will now sit on their drives for best part of a week or so probably.

Tesco near me ran out of fuel completely as people filled up before the tanker delivery.
I had to visit 4 garages until I found some diesel and then queue as above.

As Andy says, there is NO crisis or shortage at present, but people panic buying is creating a shortage, and basic economics of supply and demand means the prices will now go up. So well done every moron who is filling up now as they think WW3 is about to kick off.

Its actually preventing those of us who need fuel for their businesses from being able to get on with our lives.

Whilst we are on motoring, I'd like to see all 4x4's banned, apart from people living in rural areas who actually need them. I'd also like to see women under 50 banned from driving less than 1 mile, make the kids walk to school please!

Totally agree and Francis Maude has made a mess of it and the government are now trying to back pedal big time.

Same here every garage closed around here. Hubby now can not work and I shall have to walk to-morrow to work. When this happened about seven years ago and petrol was being rationed I was allowed to fill tank as my company registered as essential services and provided I produced evidence we were allowed. Hope it will be the same again. One of our drivers went to fill up to-day and was behind an old boy who topped his car up...........with £1.78 worth of fuel. Absolutely disgusting.

Blimey, from the stories so far it seems things aren't too bad here in Lincolnshire.

It's all a bit ridiculous.

That's more like it - proper wibble.

Errrrmmm........ I'm not sure without going out to the workshop (and I'm not that sad). I think it's a Husqvarna 345 with an 18 inch bar? I love my chainsaw. Got padded trousers (blue like snapzzz), a matching orange lid and special gloves. Had to clear a fallen tree so we could get out of our drive in the bad winter 2 years ago. Magic
