Hi Guys
Thanks for all wishes etc....really really grateful.
Rich is having a quadruple heart bypass on.....Friday 13th(!!!) February.
BUT! The surgeon has said that with the right fitness programme, we will catch the first snow next season, so if it falls in November, we will be there! He will be fully restored and probably fitter than me when all done.
Meanwhile, enjoy the season for us and stay safe!
Take Care guys
Jo xx

A bad day on the slopes is better than a good day in the office !

Hope the operation goes well and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I was chatting to someone on holiday that also had a heart problem. Apart from skiing, his main hobby was caving (he was trying to convince me of its appeal, with zero success!) Sadly, when his condition came to light he had to make the decision to tone down his caving trips (as he pointed out, you can't get a helicopter in a cave if something goes wrong.)
Instead of being downbeat though, he looked at other outdoor pursuits, invested in a full suspension mountain bike and now spends weekends riding round the New Forest instead. He was a lot fitter than me, despite being more than double my age......
I'm sure with the right care your OH will be back on the slopes in no time at all.
Good luck! :D

Sorry to hear about your OH but fingers crossed everything will work out well for him.
As for having his operation on Friday the 13th its a lucky day!!!! I had a knee op on Friday the 13th and whilst it didn't cure all my problems I'm still able to spend the full season skiing. (I also passed my driving test and got a new job on Friday 13th hence why its a lucky day!!) :D

Try Direct Travel, I am insured with them and they do levels of premium depending on your health conditions, I have the Premium Plus for my conditions and you have winter sports cover - worth a look.
I know the feeling of not going skiing, years ago I was diagnosed with gastric flu, it started on the Wednesday and on the Saturday I went to the doc's emergency clinic and he asked if I had thought of cancelling because of what I had? (words a skier going the next day does not want to hear)!! I was so determined to go, I went to bed, got up at 4 am ready to go to BHX. All the way over I could feel my body shutting down which was a very strange feeling, we got to BHX and I could not get out the car, I was so poorly. Hubby then had to go to check in to tell them we would not be going and then phone our friends who were flying out from BRS - the tannoy message made them wonder if something suspicious had been found in their luggage. Thankfully I made a good recovery, some 3 weeks later after being in bed full time and losing 2 stone in weight. We managed to get our insurance claim through and managed to book very late in the season, and I just had an easy week on the nursery slopes - but I was happy, recovered and in the mountains (although I have been asthmatic ever since - but hey!). this is a very good reason for having winter sports insurance, otherwise the loss of £800 would have not been funny!
My best wishes to your husband for a full recovery, I will raise a hot chocolate to him when I am on the slopes in 3 weeks, the mountains will still be there for him and he just has to take it steady. I am sure all J2ski peeps are with me on this.

Bloody hell jobster sorry to hear the news ,I have not had the chance to get online for a while and have some catching up to do ,I hope hubby is comfortable, and dont let him worry too much.
It's good though his skiing instincts are A1 and wants to be snowbound as soon as he is able, not sure as to insurance but will see what i can dig up...much rest and recouperation with short ,gentle excersises should help over many months.(although you should seek a doctors opinion ,one that skis would give better advice than one that doesn't i think).
Are any forum members doctors in this field i wonder?
All the best

It seems that the British Heart Foundation has information with regards to insurance companies that have heart friendly policies the link is below
