Maybe some fake tan before you go so you don't need foundation and then whatever cream you use as protection on your face will do the job of a moisturiser.
I, like you, never go anywhere without my make up but I only wear eye makeup and not foundation. I never bother with moisturiser if I'm going to be wearing sun screen. In fact sometimes I wear sunscreen instead of moisturiser...it does the same job in my opinion. :D
Question for the ladies.

Have sorted out balaclava's, ruins my hair but think its neccessary. I will do more research on cosmetics. I pride myself at getting to my age with not a wrinkle or blemish on my skin, but put it all down to constant use of cosmetics meaning that my skin has never been exposed to the elements.
Hi RoseR
I totaly agree with you here though I tend to tone it down a bit for the slopes.
I wear Clarins 40+ moisturising sunscreen (made to go under makeup) with Estee Lauder tinted moisturiser over the top. Dust on a bit of bronzer on the cheeks, waterproof mascara and a nice SPF lipgloss (am at work, cant remember the name of it but will post details later) and off I go. Lipgloss is applied every hour or so to keep the sun off my lips (so I say )
This gives me a healthy, sporty unmadeup look but still defines the face.
Nice to have some girly chat for a change :-)

bandit wrote:Rose, for -20 and below, I think you will need a balaclava. Even if you manage to find/make an oil based foundation, and get some high altitude sun cream (which has less water), you risk damage to the minor blood vessels in the face, as the skin contains water.

Sorry for another male voice. As bandit suggest, -20C is a significant temperature. It's about that temp that I start to notice the cold and cover up exposed skin. The more important factor is the wind. The wind can cause frost bite even at more modest temps. I'm sure you will find once you are over there, that all weather forecast will include effective windchill temps. When skiing in low temps with wind, you have to ere on the side of caution as anyone who has been stuck on a broken down chairlift in those conditions will you tell. You may only be ten minutes from a chalet, but you could be stuck on a lift for an hour.
So regardless of the actual temp, a windchill temp of -20C or below is when to cover up exposed skin and take an extra layer. I have never heard of women here worrying about the type of make up to wear.
The first winter I was in MN, the State Governor did declare a cold emergency. It was the only time schools have been closed because of cold. the actual temp in the Twin Cities was -40C with windchills down to -65C and up north the actual temps were -50Cs.
Lots of fun taking cups of hot water outside and throwing the water into the air. There is a crisp thump noise as the water instantly turns to a cloud of ice crystals.

Your current foundation will be fine. I was spent Christmas in Iceland a couple of years back and the only thing that will be freezing will be your eyelashes. Although I do agree with Tony - think of the mess you will make on your jacket/scarf/goggs when your slap rubs off onto it.. ugh! not a pretty site.

I asked all the cosmetic consultants at work if there are any oil based moisturisers and foundation and they could,nt find any.
Do you think its possible my normal stuff will freeze and cause me problems. I just can not go without my slap.

I did buy yesterday Boots Soltan extreme face and lip protector. Tube of cream and in the lid a lip protector stick. And it was BOGOF. Gave OH a tube, the look on his face said it all. He's adamant he wont need anything.

If you haven't used Boots Soltan before, try it before you go. I used the sun cream once and had an allergic reaction to it. White lumps all over my body for two/three days.
